Daal Soup | Red Lentil Soup


Lentil Soup


Ingredients


½ cup Yellow split lentils

½ cup Orange split lentils

1 Onion (large size, chopped)

2 Tomatoes (medium size, chopped)

1 Green chilli (chopped)

2 – 3 Garlic cloves (chopped)

1 inch Ginger piece (chopped)

Salt to taste

1 teaspoon Turmeric

Black Pepper to taste

¼ teaspoon Cumin

¼ Teaspoon coriander seeds

¼ teaspoon Garam Masala

Fresh Coriander leaves to garnish


Method


1.Pick and wash the lentils. Add 6 cups of water with lentils. Add all ingredients except fresh coriander. Let it boil and then reduce to heat. Let it simmer for 1 hour uncovered till the lentils should be cooked.

2.Puree the mixture.

3.Garnish with fresh Coriander leaves.

4.Serve it hot with chapattis (Indian leavened bread) or naan or Whole grain bread as an appetizer.


Optional: Add a tablespoon of Butter if creamy taste is preferable.

For special tempering-Heat Ghee in the pan, add Chopped red onions .Cook until it changes colour. Add spices and fresh coriander leaves and combine it with daal. It gives unique flavour to lentil soup.


Roasted cumin and Coriander seeds will give extra touch to the soup.


Note: Serves upto four people.
