Rajma (Red Kidney Beans) is a staple comfort food in India. In this blog, I will show you how to make it in your kitchen with very easy steps.
Ingredients
1 cup Red Kidney Beans (Rajma)
3 Onions medium size (Puree)
4 Tomatoes, Fresh or Canned (Puree)
2 green Chillies slit or according to taste
1 tsp Ginger paste
1 tsp Garlic paste
½ tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Red chilli powder
1 tsp Coriander Seeds (powdered)
1 tsp Garam masala powder
1 tsp Cumin seeds
2 – 3 tsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
1 tsp Kasoori Methi (Dried Fenugreek Leaves)
Salt to taste
Fresh Coriander leaves to garnish
How to make it
1. Cooking Rajmah (Step 1)
▪ Soak red kidney Beans (Rajmah) overnight for approximately 8 hours. Drain and discard the liquid and rinse with cold water.
▪ Pressure cook with ½ teaspoon Turmeric.
2. Preparing Masala (Step 2)
▪ Heat Ghee in a frying pan and add Cumin seeds.
▪ Add onions as the Cumin seeds start to splutter.
▪ Add chillies. Sauté til it turns translucent.
▪ Add Ginger-Garlic paste to the mixture. Stir thoroughly. Fry for two minutes.
▪ Add all powder masala except garam masala and dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi). Mix thoroughly and Sauté.
▪ Add Tomatoes and fry til oil separates from the mixture.
3. Combining the ingredients together
▪ Mix the ingredients from Step 1 and Step 2. Mix in salt. Cook another 10 – 15 minutes.
▪ Add Garam Masala and dried fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi).
Garnish with Ghee and Fresh Coriander leaves.
And your world number 1 rajma is read; serve it with hot rice or rotis.
