Maagh Month Special - Chana Daal Khichdi

Ingredients:


    •    For Chana Dal:


    •    1 cup chana dal (dry roasted)


    •    1 tsp ghee


    •    2 cups water


    •    1 tsp turmeric


    •    Salt to taste


    •    For Rice:


    •    1 cup basmati rice


    •    2–4 tbsp ghee


    •    1 tsp cumin seeds


    •    1 bay leaf


    •    1 black cardamom (pounded)


    •    2 cloves


    •    1-inch cinnamon stick


    •    1/2 tsp black pepper


    •    1 tsp red chili powder


    •    Salt to taste


    •    2 cups water



Method:


    1.    Cook Chana Dal:


    •    Dry roast the chana dal.


    •    Cook with ghee, turmeric, salt, and water until 70% done (grains should remain separate).


    2.    Cook Rice:


    •    Heat ghee in a pot, add cumin seeds, bay leaf, black cardamom, cloves, and cinnamon.


    •    Add black pepper, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.


    •    Add washed basmati rice and water. Cook until the rice grains are separate.


    3.    Combine:


    •    Gently mix the cooked chana dal with the rice.


    •    Drizzle ghee on top.



Serve:



Enjoy warm with masala jaggery and yogurt for a satisfying meal.
